Tsurphu Yangpachen Trek[VATYT09]


1
Day 1

You will be met at Gonggar Airport by your Tibetan guide. After immigration formalities, you will be driven to Lhasa (3650 meters). It takes around 45 minutes to reach the old city. After checking in at your hotel, you are advised to take rest and take it easy. Drink plenty of fluids and let your body get used to Lhasa’s high altitude. 
Note: There is no program arranged for today.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will be briefed on the day’s program. An experienced guide will take you on a tour to Sera Monastery, Norbulingka, Jokhang Temple and the Barkhor Square. At the famous Sera Monastery, you will get an insight into the important aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. You pay a visit to Norbulingka, the summer retreat of the Dalai Lama. Completed in 1956, the handsome building is ornately decorated with Tibetan carvings and paintings. Jokhang temple provides yet another glimpse of the rich Tibetan cultural heritage.

You will also get the chance to stroll around the busy Barkhor Square, the nerve centre of Lhasa. After the day’s tour, you will be escorted back to your hotel.

Day 3

After an early breakfast, you will be escorted by your guide to the majestic Potala Palace. The imposing structure of the palace dominates the landscape of Lhasa. As you are guided through the ancient chambers of the palace, you get to see the best of Tibetan art . The Potala Palace has a vast array of intricate Tibetan murals and beautiful statues.

You will also get to view the tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas. Later in the day you will visit the beautifully landscaped Drepung Monastery where you can observe nuns and monks chanting and performing religious discourses. After the day’s tour is over, you are escorted back to your hotel for a well- earned rest.
Note: Since only a limited number of visitors are allowed inside the Potala Palace each day, the guide will decide upon the order of sightseeing places.

Day 4
Today we will drive to Tsurphu Monastery, Tsurphu is the seat of the Karmapa, one of the four orders of Tibetan Buddhism. The Karmapa are also Known as the “Black Hat”, the hat is said to be made from the hair of Khandroma. Tsurphu was founded in 1187 by the first incarnation of Karmapa and used to be the home of 1000 monks. If time allows we’ll take a Kora to the monastery, which will take about 2 hours to complete. Afterward, prepare for the amazing trekking to Yangpachen Hot Spring. We’ll spend the night in Monastery Guesthouse.

Day 5

Today you begin your amazing trek heading up the valley; this trail passes through the high plateau where small nomadic communities camp in the herding months. You will have the chance to visit nomads along the trail and meet herders. We’ll hike up to grassy valleys and cross clean mountain streams. The scenery is beautiful and very impressive in the classic Nomad lifestyle. At Leten we’ll look for a flat area for camping.

Day 6
You’ll hike your first small pass, the Damchen Nyingtri, and descend into a magical valley of lichen-coated boulders meandering streams. Later you will cross the Lasar La and descend into the Yangpachen valley, with its wide open plateaus and head towards Bartso. The views of Brize (translated to mean female yak herder) and Tarze (horse keeper) are superb, you’ll camp near Bartso, a drokpa (nomad) village of five or six houses, surrounded by the juniper used for incense all over the Tibetan world.

Day 7
Today we’ll head towards a wide trail leading across the valley and over another ridge, from where you will be rewarded with views of Nyenchen Tanghlha (7111m), the holiest mountain in central Tibet. We’ll emerge at Tajung village, crossing through a lovely grassy hillside to Dorje Ling Nunnery, near which you will set up your camp. The nuns are very friendly, and you can pay a visit to their houses and have some yak-butter tea with them.

Day 8

Trek from Dorje Ling Nunnery to Yangpachen Monastery. Visit the Yangpachen Hotsprings (14 Km / approximately 4 hrs). Drive to Lhasa for overnight. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 9
After breakfast, transfer to the Gongkar Airport to board onward flight.
