16 Days Zanskar Trek [VAZT16]

Day 1

Upon arrival in Leh, you will be provided transfer to your hotel. Afternoon free at leisure. Overnight hotel.

Day 2

Full day tour of Shey, Theksey & Hemis. Today you start your excursion by visiting the monastery of Theksey. Theksey is one of the most imposing monastery in Ladakh. After the visit of Theksey we visit the village of Shey. it was the royal residence and was located at an important vantage point in the Indus valley. It has a large victory stupa which is topped with gold. After the visit of the monastery of Shey, we visit the monastery of Hemis. The rich monastery of Hemis is the biggest in Ladakh.

Day 3

Driving along the Srinagaer to Leh National Highway the route traces its way past the villages of Nimmu, Khaltsi, Lamayuru, Bodhkharbu and Mulbek. Kargil (2704m) is the second largest urban centre of Ladakh and lies on the Line of Control between India and Pakistan. We halt here for the night in a local hotel.

Day 4

Rangdum is almost midway between Kargil and Padum. It is a picturesque place, surrounded by colourful hills on the one side and glacier – encrusted rocky mountains on the other. Rangdum also has a 18th Century Buddhist monastery of the Geluks-pa order.Overnight hotel.


Day 5

Today after breakfast we start drive to Padam ( 3500m/11483ft) which is the Capital of Zanskar valley on the way cross Pensila pass (4401 Mtrs) and some ancient Buddhist villages. After crossing Tungri bridge visit Sunni Gompa finally we reach Padam for Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 6

Today is the Day to visit Pipitong, Thonde Gompa and Zangla (3450 Mtrs) this is the most beautiful village with ancient Zangla Gompa and you may get chance to visit Queen’s house at Zangla. On the way back visit Karsha Gompa which is one of the oldest Monastery. Overnight stay at Hotel. 


Day 7

Today we begin our trek with a relatively easy walk. On the way our first halt is at Bardan Gompa which is worth visiting because of its enormous prayer wheel. Further ahead is Mune Gompa. The campsite at Reru takes another three hours to reach.

Day 8

The trail, today, follows the Tsarap River up and down through a dark, rocky landscape. There are some stream crossings. The campsite at Changpa Tsetan is located in the fields.

Day 9

The trail continues to follow the Tsarap River. We trek past the villages of Surle, Kalbok and Zantang to the confluence of Tsrap and Kargyak rivers. A little ahead is Purne Village at an elevation of (3745m/12287ft). Overnight tented camp.

Day 10

Today while keeping our base at Purne we shall visit the famous Phuktal monastery at (3850m/12631ft) during the day. Phuktal is by far the most spectacularly located monastic establishments anywhere in Ladakh. The Phuktal complex spills out of the mouth of a huge cave high up in the vertical mountainside of the lateral Shadi gorge through which a major tributary of the Lung-nak river flows. The foundation of Phuktal dates back to the early 12th Century. Evening we come back to Purne for overnight.

Day 11

Today we will traceback our trail to Surle. Overnight tented camp.

Day 12

Today will be hard and you have to walk around about 10 to 11 Hours normally you are doing this trek for 2 days. Reaching Padam late and overnight stay in Tents. 

Day 13

Full day drive to Kargil and in the evening you reach Kargil. Overnight stay in Hotel. 

Day 14

After breakfast drive to Leh and on the way visit Mulbek monastery. Overnight stay in hotel. 

Day 15

Leisure day in Leh before departing. Overnight hotel

Day 16

Departure transfer will be provided to board your onward flight.
