13 Days Green Lake Trek [VAGLT13]

Day 1

Upon arrival at Bhadrapur airport via Nepal or Bagdogra Airport, the nearest airport , you will be met /assist and transfer will be provided to Gangtok at the elevation of 1666m/5466ft. Overnight at hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast start aprrox 5-6 hrs /135km driving by 4WD to North Sikkim to Lachen at an elevation of 2730m/8950ft.Overnight in Lachen.

Day 3

The trek starts after crossing Zemu chhu this river will be a constant companion now onwards, by late evening you are at Tallem at an elevation of 3240m/10620ft for overnight, where the Lhonak chhu from the north meets Zemu chu.

Day 4

The trail enters some of the most magnificent forest areas for which Sikkim is famous. Cross a bridge to climb steadly through forest to Shobuk. The trail then descends steeply for 12 kms to Jakthang, a small clearing in the forest where we overnight.

Day 5

We take a rest day for acclimatization in Jakthang.Overnight

Day 6

The trail continues through forest on this day. After a short climb it crosses a bridge over Thombak Chu. There are several ascents and descends on the route, and is often wiped out of floods. Later we descend towards the bank of the Zemu Chu and follow the trail beside the river. After a tiring 8 kms day walk we reach the camping ground of Yabuk. Yabuk is a small but beautiful camping area very cold and windy near the glacier. Overnight tented Camp.

Day 7

From Yabuk the trail enters the moraine field of the Zemu Glacier, crossing boulders and pebbles. It is a tiring route with increasing altitude and is like a walk in high altitude desert; though on later part one is rewarded with magnificent views of mountain peaks like Siniolchu and Simvu. At times one can also view Kanchenjunga rising in the distance. After a 6 kms walk we reach Rest camp at the mouth of Lhonak valley. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 8

The trek from Rest Camp climbs gently up the valley. The walk is usually slow because of the altitude.On a clear morning this is one of the finest treks in the Himalayas.Mount Siniolchu, Simvo, Twins and the Khangchendzonga are some of the giants that dominate the horizon. The camp is on a grassy flat known as the Green Lake Plain, the name derived from a small tarn at the eastern end where on a clear morning the reflection of the Mount Khanchendzonga is seen in the waters. Overnight at Camp.

Day 9

Spend the day lazing in the sunshine watching the peaks. The hill behind the camp which is an hours walk is a perfect pont to see the magnificent views of the Khanchendzonga and the valley below.Zemu gap that links the Zemu valley to the Talung valley is clearly seen from this hight point. Overnight at camp.

Day 10

Today we start retracing our steps towards back to Yabuk which is much easier as because it is mostly downhill. Overnight at Camp.

Day 11

We continue to descend towards jakthang and continue further to Tallem and drive to Lachen for overnight.

Day 12

Today we drive 5-6hrs to cover 135km to Gangtok. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 13

After brekafast, airport departure transfer is provided to board onward flight.
